What happens when a champion pit master meets Southern Living editors? A 365-page cookbook — “The Ultimate Book of BBQ” — published by Southern Living’s own Oxmoor House publishing company ($24.95).

The author is pit master Christopher Prieto, who has not only traveled the Kansas City Barbecue competitive circuit but is also proprietor of Prime Barbecue, a restaurant just outside of Raleigh, N.C.
